Fine Gael TD for Dublin Bay North, and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mr. Richard Bruton TD, has said that funding of over €6.4m for over 130 sports clubs and organisations in Dublin, is great news and a great boost for local communities.
“Under the programme over €6.4m is being awarded to a number of local clubs.
“I particularly welcome the 16 projects in Dublin Bay North. In the year that Dublin Bay is designated as a world Heritage Site by Unesco, it is great news to see three sea faring clubs, Howth Sea Angling Club, the Dollymount Sea Scouts and the Sutton Dinghy Club, getting funding.
“It is good to see that the City Council is working with local communities to develop sporting projects – this includes upgrading some of our great parks. The Council have worked hard with Raheny GAA and Raheny United and I’m delighted that their project has been awarded €200,000 today.
“Members put thousands of unpaid hours into giving young people an outlet in these clubs. This is recognition of the huge value they create. This funding will be a great boost to the clubs and provide hundreds of welcome construction jobs.
“Money spent on sport, is money saved on healthcare down the road. According to the Department of Sport, 90% of Sports Capital recipients say it has helped them to increase the numbers of people involved in sport.
