Minister Bruton has had continuous contact with the Howth Yacht Club regarding dredging in Howth. Minister Bruton has raised this important issue with his cabinet colleague, the Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, on a number of occasions. Minister Bruton has received confirmation that Minister Coveney has sanctioned €150,000 for site investigation works at Howth Fishery Harbour Centre.

Commenting on the matter, Minister Bruton said:

“I have met with Carl Hanratty and other members of the Howth Yacht Club and have had ongoing contact with them regarding the dredging of Howth Harbour.”

“I have raised the issue of dredging Howth harbour on a number of occasions with my cabinet colleague, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD. I am delighted that Simon has now sanctioned €150,000 for site investigation works at Howth Fishery Harbour Centre.  The report on this site investigation will include vital information on the nature of the material to be dredged in any future dredging project.  I am informed that the Report on the Site Investigation will be issued in early 2016. This report will be an important first step.”

“I also welcome the confirmation I have received from Minister Coveney that €1.79 million has been approved by the Minister for the maintenance and development of Howth Fishery Harbour Centre in 2015.”
